‘Daredevil’ – Season 1

5519b41765e9bMarvel’s Daredevil first season follows the early days of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind man, lawyer by day who fights crime at night, as well as the rise of crime lord Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio). Matt Murdock, also known as ‘Daredevil’ at night when he fights crime, has to face criminal groups like the Russian Mafia, the Yakuza or the Chinese, who have taken advantage of the city since the incidents in ‘The Avengers’ movie. Blinded as a boy in an accident that gave him heightened senses, Matt Murdock begins fighting this rising criminal element by night as a costumed vigilante while opening a law firm with his friend, Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) by day.

This American television seriesDaredevil_poster which is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name is way more sinister than you could expect from any television series. With no nonsense drama Daredevil effectively tells a superhero origin story, doing much better than it’s predecessor movie ‘Daredevil’ (2003) starred by Ben Affleck and Collin Farrell and looks comparable to a spin off of Christopher Nolans Batman trilogy.

This series shows up with surprisingly high production values, as the shots look fantastic and the action scenes often last up to 5 minutes with no visible cut in it, showing how stunningly well choreographed they are. Daredevils superpowers are very distinct to what i have ever seen before, since they are very resourceful daredevilinstead of powerful. He can hear when someones lying only by hearing his heart beat or he can instantly tell how many people are in a building. Apart from his highly sensed ears he only dominates martial arts.

Charlie Cox acts very well as Matt Murdock by day, it even kept me hooked to see how a blind mans day to day life looks like with all its details like not knowing where the light switch of your own flat is or managing to choose the right shirt at the morning. The story of the law firm he is opening with his best friend and all the cases they get also keepsAvengers-Tower-easter-egg-daredevil-netflix-serie-marvel-motion-poster the show interesting and is a good alternation to Daredevils action loaded nightlife.

Vincent D’Onofrio’s performance as super villain Wilson Fisk is also superb. We don’t often have such a well characterized cold blooded villain who sometimes even seems to steal Daredevil the show. demolidor4TV series seem to base increasingly on its villains and this show is doing very well by also giving Wilson Fisk his own feelings and motivations.

I won’t give this series a 10/10 because it didn’t really get me hooked throughout the season. It happened too often that I didn’t see any big goal I could look forward too or any showdown I could expect. The series has a very high production quality, a good plot and is incredibly entertaining but not as hooking as it needed to be to be perfect.
